Eset Smart Security is the latest offering from ESET in their range of total internet security suites.It includes anti-spyware,anti-virus,anti-spam,parental controls,anti-phising,two-way firewall,anti-theft module and a social-media scanner.The suite is available for Rs.1,799/- for a single-user 1-year license. Anti Theft Module
The newest feature included is the Anti-Theft module.If a laptop installed with Eset Smart Security is stolen,then one can report the loss to the Eset site from any computer.The software then tries to approximate the location of the stolen laptop,the feature will work only if the laptop is latched onto an internet connection.One can also take photo of thief if the laptop has a working webcam,also all the files and accounts can be hidden on the said machine.
Interface
Talking out the interface of the suite, it offers a clean and minimalistic setup.It has different tabs covering tools, setup,update, scan.The smart usage of fonts, colors, and background makes it easier to navigate and read.
Performance
During our test for scan-rate, the software averaged a scan rate of 74.4files/sec on a testbed of 141,123 files. This puts it into the average category in terms of scan rate.It scored 13/18 on the german test site AV-Test, which is 2 points better than its previous version. During my malware testing,it was able to detect almost 92% of the malware samples thrown at it.It got a score of 86/100 on its malware removal functionality and 94/100 for its anti-phishing technology according to (av-comparatives.org).
Coming to parental controls,the setup is pretty easy and several pre-made templates have been provided for blocking sites based on child’s age.The personal firewall is pretty basic but does its job well.It was able to block unauthorized access as well as certain users from accessing protected resources.
Verdict
According to my, the ESET Smart Security is a robust piece of security suite with some innovative features like the Anti-Theft module.It was able to protect itself from cyber vulnerabilities and threats. The interface is such that it will suit beginners and advanced users alike.I would definitely recommend it to my users, although it lacks in a few areas it makes up for it in other areas.
